A two-day festive market is set to take over Gravesend town centre with the return of Fayre on the Square.
More than 60 illuminated and canopied stalls will be selling a huge variety of Christmas gifts, including decorations, jewellery, candles, soft furnishings, garden ornaments, glassware, handbags and fashion accessories.
The extravaganza in Community Square is back by popular demand. Last year more than 4,000 people visited.
The fun starts at noon today and runs until 8pm, and then from 10am to 6pm on Saturday.
There will also be the Mayor’s Carol Concert featuring children from several Gravesham schools and culminating with headline performances from The Voice finalist Jamie Johnson and Britain’s Got Talent gospel singers Revelation Avenue.
One of Gravesham mayor Mick Wenban’s chosen charities this year is ellenor and staff from the hospice will be performing their Lights of Love ceremony where baubles containing personalised messages from the public are placed on the Christmas tree.
The entertainment on Saturday will include performances from tribute acts to Lady Gaga, Madonna, Boy George and Dr and the Medics.
If all that makes you a little hungry, try some tasty treats from the Italian food market – Piazza Italia – and a farmers’ market in New Road.
Father Christmas will be putting in an appearance on both days and nearby St George’s Church will be holding its Christmas fair from 10am to 2pm on Saturday.
If you’re feeling a little weary, hitch a ride on the land train running passengers up the High Street and Windmill Street, or try a donkey ride outside Towncentric in St George’s Square.
The Fayre on the Square is being held as part of Gravesham’s council’s Christmas Everyday programme and is being sponsored by North Kent College.
