Final phase of gas mains replacement works in Gravesend to start soon

The final stage of a gas mains replacement project in Gravesend town centre is set to last almost two months.

Gas company SGN will start work in King Street on Monday, January 16, and the street will be closed for seven weeks between the junctions with Queen Street and Windmill Street, while engineers replace old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe.

The work - part of a £192,000 project to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply for the area - will begin in Milton Road at its junction with Parrock Street and King Street, and then continue into King Street.

A lane closure will be in place in Milton Road for the duration of the work and temporary traffic lights will be installed to ensure the safety of motorists using the one-way system.

Lynne Edwardson, a spokesman for gas distribution company SGN, said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience our work causes and would like to thank road users for their patience while we complete our essential work.”

Previous work lead to long delays for motorists.
