Police are treating a fire at a derelict pub as a suspected arson attack.
The blaze at the former Anchor and Hope pub in Ash started at around 6pm last night.
At its height, eight fire engines and 40 fire-fighters plus a bulk water container were in attendance fighting the flames, and residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed.
The fire was under control by 9.30pm and the number of crews reduced.
The firefighters had to fight the flames from a safe distance because the building in South Ash Road appeared to be in a dangerous condition and close to collapse.
Local authority structural engineers have been called in to assess the building this morning.
The area remains cordoned off this morning.
There were no reports of any injuries.
An investigation is underway and officers are appealing to anyone with information to contact them on 01474 366149, quoting crime reference 46/56566/23. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or complete their online form.
The former Cawdor Country Inns pub ceased trading in 2018.
The building last changed hands in 2021, when it sold for £950,000.
