A massive rubbish fire on the north Kent marshes took firefighters two hours to put out last night.
Two crews from the Thamesside fire station at Northfleet tackled the blaze in a quantity of dumped tyres and general rubbish.
A spokesman said because of the location it was very difficult to fight.
"We couldn't leave it to burn itself out, but it meant running 300 metres of hose across the uneven marsh to tackle it," he said.
The fire off Dering Way, Gravesend was finally out by 11.30pm.
