Firefighters tackled hay bale blaze overnight near Foxhounds Lane in Southfleet

Firefighters have left the scene of a hay bale fire which started two days ago.

People in the Foxhounds Lane area of Southfleet were being urged to take precautions and keep their windows and doors closed due to the amount of hay ablaze.

Motorists on the A2 in the area were also warned as smoke was blowing across the road over the weekend.

Five fire engines and a bulk water carrier were called at around 8.30pm on Saturday (September 14).

Crews were on the scene throughout the evening and the following day working to extinguish the flames.

Despite making good progress, the fire service said there were still smoke issues and maintained a watching brief overnight.

This morning (September 16), firefighters said they were formulating a plan to fully extinguish it.

By 3.50pm, the service confirmed the fire was out after almost two days.
