A council has had to move dates and increase security at its fireworks show due to a strain of anti-social behaviour.

Gravesham Borough Council (GBC) has announced they have made a number of changes to this year’s display for the safety of all.

To lessen the potential for anti-social behaviour, including people bringing their own fireworks, this year's musical firework display will happen on a Thursday night instead of the usual Friday evening, with fireworks starting earlier than usual.

A statement from GBC said: "Following a small number of anti-social incidents at last year’s event, including some people bringing their own fireworks, we have made a number of changes to this year’s display for the safety of all.

"We have moved the event from its usual Friday night to Thursday night, and the display will start earlier than usual at 7pm. This is to lessen the potential for anti-social behaviour.

"We will have additional security in place and extra marshals. Our colleagues at Kent Police will also have additional officers in attendance.

"Do not bring your own fireworks. Anyone found trying to enter the event with their own fireworks will have them confiscated and will be refused entry.

"We are disappointed to have to make these changes, however we will not allow the behaviour of the anti-social few to ruin the enjoyment of the many."

The event will take place at Gravesend's Riverside Leisure Area on November 3 at 7pm.

From 4pm guests can enjoy a funfair and a disco from 6pm.

The council informed that the nearest car parks are likely to be very busy. On-street parking restrictions will be enforced to ensure access for emergency services and local residents is maintained.

People are advised to use other town centre car parks such as Parrock Street and walk to the event from there.

Additional blue badge parking will be available at Gordon Promenade East.

It will be limited, but can be accessed via the road closure at that point.
