Flood alerts have been issued across Kent for expected high tides this afternoon.

The warnings have been flagged for areas from Dartford to Allhallows, Whitstable to Margate, Sheppey and Kemsley to Seasalter and areas along the Medway estuary.

The high tide is due at 2.45pm and it's predicted it will be at its highest between 2pm and 3.45pm today.

Areas of concern include Royal Pier Road in Gravesend, Faversham, Conyer, Strood, Upnor and other low lying areas of the Medway Estuary.

A statement on the government website says: "Please be careful along beaches, low lying land nearest the sea such as promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.

"Once the high tide this afternoon has passed, conditions are expected to improve from 4pm onwards.

"We are closely monitoring the situation and our incident response staff are operating our defences and structures at Dartford Creek Barrier, Canal Basin and Queenborough Barrier and Front Brents."
