A fly-tipper has been fined after dumping rubbish – which included evidence of where to find them.

The pile of filth – which included old chairs, a sofa, shelving and bags of litter – was left in Brewhouse Yard, Gravesend, just off Queen Street.

But the culprit also left vital evidence of their identity.

Gravesham council said: "Somebody thought they could save money by dumping their rubbish on someone else's doorstep in Gravesend. They were wrong. We found items that led us straight to their door where they were handed a Fixed Penalty Notice."

Any householder who fails to pass their waste to a licensed carrier, and whose waste is found fly-tipped, can face penalties of up to £400.

And somebody else may be getting a similar visit sometime soon, after Tymberwood Academy reported rubbish fly-tipped near the school in Cerne Road, Gravesend.

Piles of black bags, shelving and a chest of drawers were among the debris.

A spokesman for the school said: "We are so disappointed that the pathways adjacent to our school have been fly-tipped yet again. We have logged this with Gravesham council and we ask that others do too. We will not accept anything but the best for our children in school and out of school as well."

Gravesham council said: "Thank you to for reporting this fly tip. We found some very helpful evidence while clearing it and will be knocking on someone’s door very soon."

The council announced earlier this year it was cracking down on anti-social behaviour , including fly-tipping.
