Former Fleet midfielder Roy Hodgson could be set for one of the biggest jobs in football as talks continue over the England hotseat.

Mr Hodgson (left) spent four hours at Wembley yesterday in discussions with the Football Association and could be appointed the country's new manager today.

The appointment would scale a dramatic rise in football for the 64-year-old who spent two years at Gravesend and Northfleet.

The midfielder played 59 times for the club from 1969-71 scoring one goal.

Club director Jessica McQueen said if he is given the reins it would represent an amazing achievement for him and the football club.

She said: "From a club perspective we are immensly proud that someone who has graced the field at Stonebridge Road and played under the Gravesend and Northfleet badge has had a career that has hit these heights."
