Friends of a young mother-of-four who is battling cancer have joined together to grant her wish – to take her children to Disneyland.
Sadie Blackston, who lives in Park Place, Gravesend, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in January.
Although she has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy since March, she has been told the cancer has spread to her lymph gland and has not shrunk enough for doctors to operate on.
While she is battling to beat the disease, the single mum is also trying to make life as good as possible for her four children – Morgan, seven, Kenzie, five, Ellisia, four and Harvey, two.
She would dearly like to spend some time away with them.
Sadie, 25, said: “It would be great to take the children away on a holiday but that might have to wait. The children might go to Disneyland with their aunt and uncle.”
Her friend Laura Read started a fundraising page to raise money for Sadie and her family to spend on days out, but also a wig should the mum lose her long, brunette locks during her next stage of treatment.
Laura has known Sadie – who went to Axton Chase School and has lived in Medhurst Gardens, Gravesend, as well as Ditton and Meopham – since her childhood as their mothers were best friends.
Laura said: “The best part was when we slept over each other’s houses at the weekends, and have such a laugh. She always made me laugh and smile all the time.
“She’s a very strong young lady who’s always smiling and having a laugh with friends and family.”
A £500 target has already been reached, but supporters will continue to raise more. Laura said: “I hope to make her dream come true so she can take them to Disneyland Paris.”
After the latest treatment did not succeed in shrinking the tumour, doctors scheduled an emergency MRI scan which took place on Monday.
Doctors have said chemotherapy and an operation are no longer an option, and have asked a London hospital for a second opinion.
