GRAVESEND cemetery has been vandalised with damage estimated to run into thousands of pounds.

The culprits have broken gravestones and drawn graffiti on them. They have also smashed windows, kicked down a wall, broken a toilet cistern and damaged roof slates. Rubbish has also been left all over the ground.

Police say the incident happened sometime between 4pm on Sunday and 9am on Monday. The buildings damaged were grade two listed by English Heritage.

Parks and amenities manager Jenny Neesan said she was disappointed and frustrated by the incident.
