Gravesend look to make ground against Luton Picture: Nick Johnson

Gravesend returned to winning ways in National 3 London & SE as they held on for a slender 24-18 home win over lowly Luton.

Having lost their last two games, the Gs fell behind to two Aidan Kenny penalties before scoring the afternoon’s first try when Ian Harman sent Reuben Potaka clear to score.

Sam Hall kicked the conversion but Luton re-took the lead before half-time, Jake Hobbs running in a try which Kenny converted.

After the break, Gravesend took control and once Potaka had scored his second try of the game, Gary Gray created the space for Tom Goss to touch down.

Jon Clement’s try, converted by Hall, left the home side with a seemingly comfortable 24-13 lead, but late Luton resurgence yielded an Alexander Southerland try which salvaged a losing bonus point for the visitors.

Gravesend sit sixth in the table ahead of Saturday’s trip to CS Rugby 1863.
