Gravesend lost their second National League 3 London & South East game of the season, going down 37-10 at home to Ampthill on Saturday.

The visitors showed plenty of skill, spirit and determination and their attacking play was rewarded with an 18-3 half-time lead.

Two penalties followed by two tries, one of which was converted, put Ampthill 18-0 ahead before Gravesend got their first points on the board through a penalty from Josh Smith.

Injuries to Gravesend's Dave Irwin and James Newman saw Chris Anstey and Reuben Potaka brought on as replacements, but the second half continued in a similar vein with Ampthill extending their lead with two tries, one of which was converted.

Gravesend responded with a try from Sox Stevens converted by Smith, but in seperate incidents, Stevens and an Ampthill player were sin binned, and the game became more even.

However, Ampthill had the last word with a breakaway try which was converted.
