Gravesend on the charge against Staines Picture: Nick Johnson
Gravesend ended a run of four straight league defeats with a home win over Staines on Saturday.
All four of those defeats had come on away soil but they bounced back on their own turf with a 27-20 win.
Gravesend were 6-0 up early on in the National League 3 London & SE match through two Dave Dorton penalties.
A try wasn’t long in coming and Ian Harman was the man to touch down after being given the scoring chance by Ashley Moorey.
Dorton kicked successfully again to give Gravesend a 13-0 lead inside the opening 10 minutes.
A converted try for Staines pulled it back to 13-7 but Moorey’s pace opened the opponents up and Adam Bishop grounded. Dorton converted with the last kick of the half.
A Staines penalty made it 20-10 and more points followed with another converted try.
Gravesend ended the game on a high, with Bishop scoring his second try of the game and Dorton converting.
