Tom Bishop jets out to Australia on Friday for a new challenge – and hopes he will return to Gravesend Rugby Club a better player.
After helping the club to the London 1 South title last season, the 21-year-old winger has been a pivotal figure as Gravesend have more than held their own in National League 3 London & South East, reaching the highest league position – fifth – in their history.
A new challenge awaits, however, and next month Bishop will turn out for New South Wales side Casino Bulls.
He said: "It was something I’ve wanted to do for a while and after getting made redundant, I’ve gone for it. They play a different style and it will be great for my rugby education.
"I hope to use rugby to get me around the world. I don’t know what the future holds but I’ll be back."
Bishop joined the club’s youth ranks after previously turning out for Lordswood and Medway and feels there is no better place to be.
"There is no other club where the atmosphere compares," he said. "I want to thank my team-mates for their help and hope they can keep it going."
