Gravesend Rugby Club fell to a disappointing 16-10 defeat at Tring in National League 3 London & South East on Saturday.
The home side began the game 17 points behind Gravesend in the table, but moved clear of the relegation zone as the visitors failed to complement their possession with enough end product.
Liam Chennells opened the scoring with a penalty after Gs were given offside, but they hit back when Scott Curley combined with Tom Goss for a try.
Dave Dorton’s missed conversion seemed inconsequential as Gravesend continued to prosper with the ball, but they failed to turn their dominance into points. Chennells, though, proved more accurate with the boot, adding a second and third penalty to give Tring a 9-5 half-time lead.
Curley’s try gave Gravesend a 10-9 advantage with 13 minutes left, but the conversion again went wide and Tring took advantage when, after a series of driving mauls, James Stevenson forced his way over and Chennells added the extras.
