A Labour general election candidate is due in court again today facing a drink-drive charge.

Kathryn Smith, who failed to win the Conservative seat of Gravesham, was arrested after crashing her car into a roundabout in Bob Dunn Way, Dartford, just days before voters went to the polls in May.

A solicitor for the 50-year-old, of Cambridge Avenue, Welling, has already indicated she will plead not guilty to the charge of driving while more than double the legal limit.

She was suspended by the Labour Party pending the outcome of her case, which was due for a pre-trial review yesterday.

Smith is an ex-director of the Cooperative Bank and former leader and deputy mayor of Bexley council.
