A plume of thick black smoke is hanging over the A2 after a greenhouse caught fire.

The fire took hold just after 6.30pm on Tuesday at Springhead Nurseries which is near the Gravesend Central turn-off from the A2 on the coastbound side of the road.

Gravesend Messenger photographer Nick Johnson, who took this picture, said the fire had spread to nearby grass and bushes, close to the road.

Suzanne Penfold, who was driving towards London added: "The smoke is solid, thick and black. It is really difficult to tell what is on fire because the smoke is so thick."
