Gravesend finished on the wrong end of a heavy 59-10 National League 3 London and SE defeat at Dorking on Saturday.
They concede eight tries, but the scoreline hides the effort and possession Gs had in the game with their best spell coming late in the first half, but conceded 21 points in the last five minutes.
Skipper Jamie Forsyth scored their only try with Josh Smith adding the conversion and a penalty.
They were 14-0 down early on, trailed 26-3 midway through the first half , before Gs had their best spell of the first half stopping the Surrey side adding to their score before half-time.
Gs started the second half well, Forsyth driving over for his try and Smith adding the extras to reduce the arrears to 26-10.
Dorking eased further ahead with two tries and a conversion to move 38-10 ahead, and rammed home their advantage late on with four more scores, three of them converted.
Gs were disappointed with the result, but proud of their performance against the early season pacesetters.
