A 100m cordon was put in place and about 30 homes were evacuated after a ruptured gas main at a house.
The exclusion zone was put in place while emergency services attended the incident at a property in Lewis Road in Istead Rise, near Gravesend.
The incident started just before 11am and crews have since been able to make the area safe.
Fire teams used a hose reel to create a fine water mist in the affected area, while the work was carried out.
Gas safety engineers were in attendance and there are no reported casualties.
Residents have returned to their properties.
