Homes in the dark during two-day power cut

A WOMAN has described a “frightening” experience when her house lost power for two days.

About 120 houses in the Alexandra Road area of Denton suffered a power cut on Sunday at 2.30pm, which lasted for many until the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Theresa Henry, 45, of Alexandra Road, said: “Nobody from the power company bothered to contact us and let us know what was going on.

“It was really quite frightening as some of the street lights were out and we had to eat our dinner by candlelight. Then everytime the power came back on for some properties you would hear alarms going off, you couldn’t leave your house just in case that happened.”

A spokeswoman for EDF Energy said: “About 120 customers in the Alexandra Road area experienced an interruption to their power supplies because of a fault on an underground electricity cable.

“EDF Energy Networks engineers worked as quickly and as safely as possible to restore supplies but the fault proved more complex to resolve than hoped.

“About 40 customers had power again at 10.47pm on Sunday with another 40 customers restored at 1.30pm on Monday. The final customers had power at 12.48am on Tuesday.

“We appreciate how difficult it is to lose power and apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident.

“Our customer relations colleagues will be writing to those worst affected to explain further.”
