A man who helped keep his friend alive after he was stabbed says the experience was like being in a “slaughterhouse”.
Lee Tate was convinced Tony Adams would die when he was attacked in Overcliffe, Gravesend, on Monday last week.
The 48-year-old rang the emergency services when he saw his mate walk back from the front door covered in blood.
He said: “I was in his flat when he went to the door before coming back, saying he had been stabbed.
“There was blood everywhere – it was all up the hallway and door, like a slaughterhouse.”
Mr Tate applied pressure to the dad-of-four’s stab wounds while on the phone to the ambulance service, who were at the scene 15 minutes later.
The builder added: “I was shaking and pressed on the wound and tried to keep talking to him.”
“He passed out a couple of times and I had to bring him back round.
“I didn’t think he was going to make it. I thought my friend was going to die.
“I was shouting at them [ambulance service] down the phone.
“They were on the phone the whole time telling me what to do.
“It’s a big surprise to have something like that happen so close to home. I keep getting flashbacks of it all and so does my friend.
“I’ve installed some locks and CCTV at his place so he will hopefully be at ease a bit.”
Earlier, a woman was assaulted before having her car stolen.
Jonathon Dowling, 27, of Springhead Parkway, Northfleet, was charged last Wednesday with attempted murder, actual bodily harm and taking a vehicle without consent.
Police spokesman Vicki Foster said: “The charges relate to an incident which was reported to have happened at around 12am on Monday, February 18, where a woman, was assaulted.
“A short time later a man was reported to have received injuries consistent with stab wounds to his leg and arm.
“The injuries were not deemed life-threatening and the man was taken to a local hospital.”
Dowling appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.
He was remanded to appear before Woolwich Crown Court on Wednesday, March 20.
