An inquest into the death of a Gravesend teenager has been adjourned while a further report on the case is examined.
The inquest into the death of 14-year-old Edward Barry, whose body was found in a Gravesend flat, was due to begin on Tuesday. It was adjourned until July.
The youngster, who had been under the care of social services, was discovered at an address in Parrock Street in the early hours of Friday, November 20 last year.
A toxicology report showed the Gravesend Grammar School pupil had methadone and diazepam in his system, as well as alcohol. He is thought to have been taking drugs the night he died, but his death remains unexplained.
Coroner Roger Hatch said “extensive enquiries” have already been carried out into the death but did not reveal the subject of the outstanding report in the short hearing at Gravesend Adult Education Centre, in Darnley Road.
Kent County Council’s child social services had launched an investigation into the death, in conjunction with Kent Police, because it had been supporting the troubled youngster before he died, along with other agencies.
