A man died after a head-on road crash while enjoying a holiday in the USA, an inquest heard.
Clive Prevett, 64, was visiting Salt Lake City, Utah, and had set out with his three companions for a trip around the Grand Canyon in Arizona when their car collided head-on with another vehicle.
The driver and Mr Prevett, who lived in Higham, were both seriously injured and taken to hospital by air, but the front seat passenger died at the scene.
The two injured friends were being airlifted to Flagstaff in Arizona until Mr Prevett suffered a massive stroke, which saw him being taken to hospital in Phoenix instead.
He died on August 25, nine days after the crash after suffering another stroke after two rounds of brain surgery.
The medical cause of death was given as a head injury.
Following the inquest at Archbishop’s Palace, Maidstone, senior coroner Patricia Harding recorded that Mr Prevett died as a result of a road traffic collision.
"He was very caring, he cared about the environment and about his dogs" - Trevor Prevett
Mr Prevett worked as a jeweller in Surrey, having previously worked in London’s famous Hatton Garden district.
He was a keen backpacker and had been on numerous trips to the USA and Kenya.
His cousin Trevor Prevett said he was a very caring person.
“His main interest was certainly dogs – he had three dalmatians and a terrier, and he did volunteer work and things like that,” he said.
“He was just a very nice person. He was very caring, he cared about the environment and about his dogs.”
