A JILTED boyfriend who went on a drunken rooftop rampage causing thousands of pounds of damage has been jailed.

Father-of-three Nolan Aldridge, 44, wrecked his former girlfriend’s flat in Queen Street, Gravesend, before clambering on to the roof and throwing tiles from neighbouring properties.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that he threw about 50 tiles, smashing windows in the process and causing not only a minor injury to a police officer, but more than £20,000 damage to one property alone.

Aldridge, of no fixed home, also tried to slit his wrists with one of the tiles, but eventually gave himself up after several hours of coaxing by trained police negotiators.

He admitted five charges of criminal damage, one of racially-aggravated criminal damage and affray.

He was jailed for a total of 21 months plus two months consecutive for breaching bail.

Richard Milne, prosecuting, told the court Aldridge drank “a great deal of alcohol” after his 19-year-old girlfriend told him their relationship was over.

Philip Sinclair, defending, said Aldridge was thoroughly ashamed of himself.

Mr Sinclair said the rooftop rampage was designed to show his girlfriend how much she meant to him.
