Joy and pain as A-level results come in

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

A-level fever is sweeping the country and at Gravesham schools this morning, nervous students were arriving to collect their results.

There was delight for some, including James Tulip, 18, of Central Avenue, Gravesend, who scored top points at Meopham School.

Clutching his paper with an A and three Cs he said he was thrilled to have been accepted at the University of Liverpool with a view to eventually joining the Armed Forces.

He said: "I didn't do quite as well as I expected in Biology but I was really pleased with my A in Physics."

The school achieved a pass rate of 98.5 per cent.

At St George's CofE School in Gravesend Sam Youseman, 18, said he hoped to have done better, despite getting results most people would be thrilled with - an A in Physics, B in maths and a B in Chemistry.

He said: "I'm a bit disappointed in my maths, I was hoping for an A."

Over half of the A-level students at Gravesend Grammar School for Girls got A and B grades compared with last year.

Mike Holmes, assistant headteacher, said the rate, which went from 48 per cent to 51.2 per cent this year was down to the hard work of the students and staff.

Alex Wright, 18, from Gravesend was pleased with her three Bs in English, Geography and Religious Education and plans to go to Leicester University to study English.
