A foodie from Kent has been revealed as one of the contestants in the next series of The Great British Bake Off.

Gravesend's Laura, 31, will appear on the popular Channel 4 programme when it airs on September 22.

The digital manager made her first cake at about the age of eight, and is now said to enjoy adding a modern twist to classic recipes.

She specialises in decorations, having mastered the art of piped buttercream flowers.

Speaking to Radio Times , she said: "I bake from the heart and love making things that pack a punch in terms of flavour.

"Finesse and refinement are not always my strong points.”

A fan of musicals, Laura is married to a police community support officer and volunteers for the Samaritans in her spare time.

She will be joined by 12 others on the show, including an armed guard and bronze resin sculptor.
