One of Kent's RNLI crews will appear in the brand new series of the BBC Two programme, Saving Lives at Sea.

Volunteer crew from the Gravesend lifeboat station will be on our screens during the first episode which airs at 8pm on Thursday.

The show, which uses footage captured on helmet cameras, lets viewers witness rescues through the eyes of the RNLI lifesavers while meeting the people behind the pagers.

It also includes interviews with lifeboat crews, lifeguards as well as the rescuees and their families who are here to tell the tale, thanks to the RNLI.

Gravesend’s RNLI appearance focuses on the rescue of an unwell swan who was evading capture.

This is the first time the station will feature on the series.

Station Manager, Jason Carroll, is one of the team who will feature on the episode.

He said: "Our lifesaving work would not be possible without donations from the public and we are delighted to be able to share a frontline view of the rescues they support with their kind generosity."

Now in its seventh series, the 10-part programme includes the lifesaving work of RNLI lifeguards and volunteer lifeboat crews from around the UK and Ireland.

In 2021, the crews aided 12,903 people, saving 296 lives, while the charity’s lifeguards aided 18,180 people and saved 112 lives on some of the UK’s busiest beaches.

The series, which is made for the BBC by Blast! Films, will also be available on BBC iPlayer following the broadcast.
