Two Kent MPs have signalled they will fight against plans by Southeastern to reduce train services at village stations.

Gravesham MP Adam Holloway and Dartford's Gareth Johnson will hold a joint meeting to discuss proposals to reduce services in Meopham and Longfield.

The meeting will take place on Thursday, May 17 at Longfield Community Hall in Fawkham Road, Longfield, at 7pm.

Mr Johnson said: "As someone who regularly commutes from Longfield station I am aware of the serious impact these proposals would have on local rail users."

Mr Holloway urged as many people as possible to send their concerns to his office or sign a petition started by Meopham parish council.

Respondents have until Thursday, May 31 to submit their opinions on the proposals.

Rail bosses claim reducing services at some stations will improve capacity and journey times on trains travelling between Kent and London.

A spokeswoman for Southeastern said: "These are proposed changes to the off-peak timetable following calls from stakeholders in Kent to provide more faster services to London.

"It is a draft timetable which is currently open for consultation; we'll be taking the views of all stakeholders onboard."

A final decision would have to receive approval from the Department for Transport.
