An independent training provider that delivers BTEC courses at two campuses in Kent has been praised by Ofsted.

Inspectors visited between May 12 and May 17 and found that learners accessing courses viia VLUK enjoy their studies and feel valued.

The report states: “They are motivated to succeed, because of the supportive and aspirational learning environment that leaders and staff have created.”

As a result, most learners achieve distinctions in their vocational qualifications.

Learners have a secure understanding of the importance of nutrition and exercise for good physical health.

Attendance is high for the most part and learners are punctual.

However, inspectors also found too many learners who study Maths and English GCSEs in online sessions do not demonstrate the same high level of commitment to these subjects.

This means they do not achieve the grades they are capable of.

Learners feel safe at VLUK and know how to report concerns if needed.

Inspectors found that courses are planned in a way that supports the demand for roles in the sports industry.

The report adds: “In level 3 sports coaching, learners become proficient in coaching an extended range of football defence strategies.

“As a result, learners develop the skills that employers in these sectors need.”

Tutors and teaching assistants provide effective and appropriate support for learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

As a result, learners with SEND achieve as well as their peers or better.

Leaders and staff also check learners’ progress carefully, which means most learners achieve their qualifications successfully.

The arrangements for safeguarding at VLUK were found to be effective.

The report notes the provider needs to make sure learners remember what they have been taught about the risks associated with radicalisation and extremism and how these may affect themselves and others.

The provider was rated “Good” in all areas and had not previously been inspected.

At the time of inspection, there were 1,064 learners studying vocational courses across the country, 941 of which were studying level 3 sports coaching and development.

“Our dedicated teams work tirelessly to provide high-quality education...”

Almost all learners were between 16 and 18-years-old.

CEO of VLUK Rob Johnson said: “We are immensely proud of the positive impact VLUK has on our learners’ lives.

“Our dedicated teams work tirelessly to provide high-quality education and real-world learning experiences that prepare our learners for successful futures.

“This report is a testament to our commitment and our ongoing efforts to foster an inclusive, supportive, and aspirational learning environment.”
