Liam Daish is demanding more from his Ebbsfleet players ahead of their New Year’s Day derby at Blue Square Premier fellow strugglers Grays on Friday.
A swift win double against the Essex side, following the 2-1 win on Boxing Day, would be the perfect way to start 2010 but Daish can be excused for simply not knowing what to expect at Bridge Road after his side finished a poor second best against another of the league’s lesser lights, Hayes & Yeading, on Monday.
Grays let in three goals inside the opening six minutes against Crawley the same afternoon, but Fleet boss Daish said: "They will be dangerous and desperate to get something from the game. We can’t serve up another display like the one at Hayes.
"Maybe the performance was a one-off but in our situation we can’t have too many of them.
"I don’t even know myself what was missing and there will have been a few questions to be answered by the players when we meet again and start preparing for Friday’s game.
"I’m baffled as how we can play like that two days after the performance against Grays.
"It was just not up to the standards we have set ourselves of late. I felt let down and think they can give me more considering the magnitude of the game and it wasn’t what we spoke about before the game
"If it is the best they can offer, then it’s not good enough and I felt sorry for the supporters who were there and were magnificent."
