Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish has urged his side to maintain their appetite for the big occasion when another former League club roll into Stonebridge Road this weekend.
Last weekend’s 2-1 win over Stockport lifted the Fleet eight points clear of the Blue Square Bet Premier relegation zone and they can move further away from danger by beating Darlington on Saturday.
In pre-season, sections of the Stonebridge Road support feared for their side’s welfare in a division containing so many full-time outfits. However, Ebbsfleet are now on a six-game unbeaten streak and they sit immediately above the last four clubs to be relegated from League 2.
Having seen his side take points off former League sides in each of their last three home games, Daish has called for more of the same against the Quakers.
He said: "People sometimes write us off a little bit. We’re up against it right from the start against full-time opposition, but in the time that we do have with the boys, there are no gaps, no time wasted.
"Sometimes, just having that appetite for football on a matchday is enough. You can train morning, noon and night but come Saturday, some people don’t turn up. I’ve seen it myself, you’ve got to have an appetite for a Saturday afternoon, it doesn’t matter what you do during the week."
Ricky Shakes should return to the squad after returning from international duty with Guyana. The winger scored as the Golden Jaguars booked their passage to the next phase of 2014 World Cup qualifying with a 2-1 win over Trinidad & Tobago last Friday.
