Two officer who saved man's life in Northfleet are given awards for their efforts

Two police officers who performed life-saving techniques on a man who had suffered a heart attack, have been given an award for their efforts.

The pair, PC Mark Johnston and PC Stephen Howard who are both of the North Kent local policing team, performed CPR on the man for almost half-an-hour in March this year - saving his life.

He had been crossing a road in Northfleet with his five-year-old daughter when he suffered the heart attack and collapsed.

The offices has been on patrol in the area when they were called to assist South East Coast Ambulance Service with the incident.

As the ambulance crew administered other urgent treatment to the man, PCs Johnston and Howard spent the next 28 minutes taking it in turns to perform CPR on him.

The man survived the heart attack was taken to hospital where he recovered well.

The award was handed out at the Chief Constable’s awards ceremony.

Chief Constable Alan Pughsley said: "Kent Police officers face challenging situations on a daily basis and routinely run towards danger and difficulty.

"They place victims and vulnerable people at the heart of everything they do and it is an honour for me to recognise those who go above and beyond the call of duty to help those who need it the most."
