A couple tackled a blaze after sunlight reflecting off a mirror set light to their bedroom curtains.
The fire started at about 9am on Saturday at a home in The Street, Shorne. The occupants of the house were downstairs when a smoke alarm went off, alerting them to the fire upstairs.
The couple were able to douse the flames with water and throw the curtains out the window before a fire crew from Strood station arrived.
Firefighters established the fire had been caused by sunlight reflecting off a make-up mirror which was on the ledge of a dormer window.
Watch manager Ian Simpson said: "It was lucky the house was fitted with working smoke alarms which alerted the couple to the fire straight away.
"Had it been another five or 10 minutes the fire would have got into the roof and it would have been a very different story."
