A Gravesend man who threw boiling water over another man during an argument has been jailed.
Eduard Janki, 61, used a kettle to throw recently boiled water at his victim as the pair argued inside a flat in Milton Place, Gravesend, in April 2019.
Janki, of Darnley Street, Gravesend, was jailed yesterday for five years and six months following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court, and ordered to serve one year on licence upon his release.
He had denied the charge of grievous bodily harm with intent but a jury found Janki guilty.
The jurors heard how police had received a call reporting a disturbance coming from a flat in Milton Road, just after 8pm.
The manager of a nearby shop phoned a short time later, reporting that they were trying to help a customer, who had come into the store with burns to his upper body, by pouring cold water on the wounds.
South East Coast Ambulance Service also phoned to make officers aware of the injuries that had been sustained.
Following treatment, the victim was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a specialist hospital in London where he was treated for 20 per cent burns to his upper body.
The victim had to undergo two surgeries and have skin grafts following the incident.
Officers arrested Janki inside the flat at around 9.10pm and he was later charged with the offence.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Kara Sweetland said: "This assault has left the victim with visible reminders of this awful incident which he has to deal with every day.
"Had it not been for the fact that the victim quickly sought help nearby his injuries could have been a lot worse.
"Throughout the investigation Janki has showed no remorse for his actions and denied the offence, making the victim endure a trial. His custodial sentence is completely justified."
