Man killed as lorry overturns

A VAN driver died today when an HGV lorry overturned on top of his vehicle at Ash Road at Hartley, near Gravesend.

Police said the van driver, who has not yet been named, lived in the Gravesend area. He died at the scene.

The victim is believed to be in his 30s or 40s. The tragedy happened at about 5.30am.

The lorry driver is not thought to be seriously injured.

Martin Pearce, spokesman for North Kent police, said: "We are not releasing a name at this time and a full investigation is underway.”

Ash Road was closed for much of the day while officers investigated the accident which caused major tailbacks throughout the region.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash. The coroner has been informed and an inquest will be held.
