A man was airlifted to hospital after being stabbed in an alleyway in Gravesend town centre.

The incident happened Church Alley just off the High Street, on Sunday.

A witness described seeing a man in his early 20s in nearby Jury Street with a gash to the top of his head, and blood on his cheek being treated for his injuries by police officers.

Police and paramedics were called out to the area shortly after 2.30pm.

The man's injuries were deemed to be serious enough for him to be taken by the Kent Air Ambulance to a London hospital.

The alleyway, which links Princes Street to the High Street, was cordoned off by police.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Vicki Foster, spokesman for police, said: "Kent Police was called at 2.35pm to a report of a man being assaulted in Church Alley, Gravesend.

"The man has been taken to a London hospital by air ambulance to be treated for an injury consistent with a stab wound."

Police confirmed yesterday that the man has now been discharged from hospital. No arrests have been made.
