A man has been taken to hospital with burns to his face after a vehicle battery exploded on an industrial estate.

Firefighters were called to a unit on the Northfleet Industrial Estate in Lower Road at just after 12pm after reports of an explosion involving a large goods vehicle battery.

On arrival they found a man with burns to his face and body and helped paramedics treat him with first aid.

He was then taken to hospital.

The crew then isolated the battery, contained the spill before handing it back to the owner of the unit.
