A football match in memory of a keen player will be held next weekend.

It has been organised by Roger Greenstreet’s son Paul who is hoping to reunite as many ex-Cobham FC, Clifton FC and Kings Farm FC players.

Paul, who is inviting all his dad’s friends, said: “My father passed away in November last year, suddenly and unexpectedly.

“He played football from the age of 16 in the North Kent Sunday football league, the Gravesend Saturday league and the Kent Amateur league.

“He played for the Sun FC on Sundays, and on Saturdays he played for Kings Farm, Clifton United and Old Saxonians.

“My father also managed Clifton Utd of which my brother and I and my two cousins played for under him, of which we were very proud.”

Mr Greenstreet, who lived in Cobham, was a father of two and grandfather of two.

He died at the age of 71.

Paul said: “My father and his brother John could both have played at the very highest level and were often asked to attend trials, but on every occasion refused for reasons such as they both preferred to play alongside their friends and – probably more importantly – they both had families to support and wanted the security regular employment provided.

“We will be raising funds for two children’s charities in the process of this game of which my father would have been so proud.

“These charities are chYps and a charity called Holding on Letting Go, a bereavement charity supporting children, based in the Medway Towns.”

The match takes place on Cobham’s recreational ground on Saturday, October 5 from 3pm, and will finish with a raffle at the Leather Bottle pub in Cobham, which has also donated the kits.
