Plans to replace Gravesend's former police station with flats should be back on track next week with councillors set to approve a new planning application for the site.

The Windmill Street facility became obsolete when the £30 million North Kent headquarters opened in 2008. It shut in 2009 and was eventually demolished in 2016 following the approval of an application by Kent and Sussex Properties (KSP) to build 86 flats.

KSP then applied to up that number to 96 and the site was then sold to Elizaveta UK Property which applied to increase that figure to 99 in December 2016.

Elizaveta wants to build 41 one-bedroom, 50 two-bedroom and eight three-bedroom flats in blocks of between four and six storeys plus a penthouse apartment at the top of a seven-storey block.

Plans also include 816.5 sq metres of commercial floorspace and a basement car park with 86 spaces, five motorcycle bays and room for 90 bikes.

There would be an additional six spaces, a delivery bay and 22 bike spaces on Wrotham Road.

While the application includes more flats, the commercial element is slightly smaller and there are less underground spaces.

Members of the borough's regulatory planning board will be advised to approve the application at a meeting on Wednesday.
