A mother watched in horror as a man was stabbed in front of her, her baby and her terrified toddler.
The young woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the man was “knifed” before falling onto the buggy holding her year-old baby as she waited for a bus in Milton Road, Gravesend, with two of her children.
The incident took place just before noon yesterday.
The victim was treated at the scene before being airlifted to King’s College Hospital in London.
The man, who suffered multiple wounds, was conscious, although his injuries were said to be “potentially serious” by a South East Coast Ambulance spokesman.
The woman said the experience was something she could never “unsee” and that her son’s blanket was used to stem the bleeding of the victim’s injuries.
She said: “I had just picked my son up from nursery and was waiting at the bus stop across the road from the Milton convenience store in Milton Road and another lady was also waiting for the bus.
“One white man was walking up past us on our side while two other men, one white and one black, seemed to get dropped off in a car and then run across the road to the man in question.
“Both men were punching and kicking the man to the ground. The man [being attacked] screamed ‘one of them has a knife’.
“They carried on punching and knifing the man and also carried on doing so when he fell onto my 17-month-old son in his pushchair.
“While all this was happening my three-year-old was screaming his little heart out and witnessed the whole incident.”
The man fell to the ground while still being attacked and the two men were then seen running down Augustine Road through to Norfolk Road.
The woman continued: “My son’s blanket was used to try to help stem the bleeding.
“Reports were he’d been stabbed a number of times in his back, chest and arm and had a bloodied face from what looked like a broken nose.”
Police were called to reports of an assault in Milton Road, Gravesend.
An ambulance, two ambulance cars and an air ambulance also attended, with the helicopter landing in a field at nearby Gravesend Rugby Club.
A police spokeswoman said the man’s injuries were consistent with knife wounds and that officers remained at the scene to gather evidence.
The condition and age of the man was not known as we went to press, but it is believed that all three men involved are in their early to mid 30s.
The mother, who also has a daughter who was at school at the time, said both she and her young family were traumatised by the ordeal.
She said: “I’m feeling very distressed over it all and the look on my three-year-old’s face is something I will never unsee.
“I’m feeling fragile and sick to the stomach over it all and that they didn’t think twice about doing it even though there were young children close by.”
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
