Mystery artists emblazon image for Queen on streets in Cobham, Sole Street and Meopham

Mysterious artists worked overnight to emblazon images of Queen Elizabeth II on streets in Gravesham before the Queen's funeral.

Residents say unknown workers were seen using what appeared to be a blow torch to create the images overnight between Sunday and Monday in Sole Street, Cobham and Meopham.

Gravesham council said it was not aware of the work being officially commissioned.

Sole Street resident Luisa Saunders shared images of the work in Manor Road, and said other residents had seen the images being put on streets in Cobham.

She added: "The van, from what we could see, looked like a contractor van and the two ‘artists’ were using a large gas bottle and a blow torch type instrument.

"The noise was incredibly loud and initially I thought jets were heading into London to monitor the airspace, but it continued, then I thought it sounded like blow torches.

"It’s a nice gesture. I’ve shared on Sole Street social media page and it seems others saw ‘them’ at midnight in Cobham."
