The thefts of two high-value cars from homes in Gravesend has prompted detectives to issue a warning to the public.
A BMW was driven away from a property in Bronte View at around 3am on Saturday, July 14, after a man was seen waving a device near the door of the property which unlocked the vehicle — it is unclear exactly what the device was.
At 4.45am yesterday (Wednesday) the porch window of a house in Singlewell Road was smashed and the keys to a black Mercedes were stolen. It was then driven off.
During the warmer weather many residents will leave windows open and doors unlocked making properties easy targets for opportunist burglars.
In response to the thefts detectives have advised most burglaries also happen on weekdays, in daylight when least expected.
They advised residents to keep car keys and fobs away from front doors and out of view, park in well-lit places where possible; remove valuables from cars and ensure the vehicle is locked and car windows are shut; close windows at night time; and keep gates locked and boundaries secure.
Superintendent Andy Gadd said: "We understand that during this extreme warm weather many residents will leave their windows and doors open and I’d just like to remind residents not to leave any car keys, fobs or other valuables in sight as burglars are opportunists and will be on the lookout for easy properties to target."
