Quick-thinking neighbours managed to stop a house blaze from spreading.
A fire broke out in the conservatory of a house in Admers Wood, Vigo, just before midnight last night.
Neighbours on both sides of the terrace house grabbed garden hoses and tackled the flames before fire crews arrived.
Their actions meant the fire did not spread to the main part of the house.
David Aylwin, crew manager for Thames-side station said the neighbours had done a good job.
He added: “The fire burnt through the roof of the conservatory. We suspect it was caused by a tumble dryer. About 50% of the conservatory and its contents were destroyed.”
The occupants of the property, a couple in their thirties, were safely out of the house when crews arrived. They had been alerted to the blaze by their dogs.
No-one was injured.
