ANPR parking system to be introduced into Parrock Street car park in Gravesend town centre

ANPR cameras are set to go live in a town centre car park in two weeks.

The new paying system for parking in Parrock Street, in Gravesend, will be introduced on Monday, July 24.

Earlier this year, Gravesham council announced it will be changing the way motorists pay for parking in the town by introducing an ANPR system which allows users to pay at the end of their stay, rather than arrival.

The scheme was first introduced in Rathmore Road car park on May 15 and is set to be brought in to Ordnance Road and Milton Place at a later date.

Currently, drivers can pay to use the council-owned car park by using the ticket machines or via parking app RingGo.

But when the new system is introduced, they will need to pay by either registering for Autopay via the council's website to set up automatic payments, use RingGo PayLater, pay at any of the machines using cash, card or contactless, or use contactless payment at the exit barrier.

Those with a season ticket or worker’s permit will have their details recognised by the new system so do not need to change anything.

Parking will remain free between 6pm and 8am, all day on Sundays and for two hours on Saturdays.

The ANPR scheme did come under scrutiny when it was first announced as it wanted Blue Badge holders to register their badge to just one car rather than be able to transfer it to other vehicles depending on who is driving.

But following feedback the council changed its mind and now badge holders can register multiple vehicles although they must select one to be ‘active’ before entering the car park.
