North Kent Modern Pentathlon Club members Kate French and Gareth Evans will both be competing in the World Cup which comes to Medway Park this week.

French (pictured), from Meopham, and Evans who lives at Cobham, are among the squad of 23 representing Great Britain at Medway Park, Gillingham - formerly Black Lion Leisure Centre.

It’s the third of four World Cup events this year and runs from Thursday until Sunday.

French, 19, is one of the youngest taking part.

She said: "It’s the biggest competition I’ve been involved in and it’s going to be tough.

"I’m looking forward to it and I’ll just be giving it my best."

The women’s semi-finals start on Friday, while Evans and the men begin on Thursday. The finals take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Evans, who has shaken off a shin injury, said: "I’m excited and looking forward to competing so close to home. I’m confident I’ve done the best I can in preparation for the event."

The event combines a 200m swim, fencing, show jumping, and a 3,000m running and shooting event all based around the venue.
