North Kent says no to AV

Voters in Gravesend, Dartford and Sevenoaks gave an overwhelming thumbs down to the Alternative Vote system.

In Gravesend, 8,266 people voted yes, compared to 22,023 nos. The pattern was repeated in Dartford with 7,256 people in Dartford voting yes, compared to 21,397 putting their cross in the no box.

Sevenoaks saw 9,849 people voting yes with 29,850 rejecting changing the Westminster voting system.

Nationally, the No to AV campaign attracted 13.6 million votes to the Yes camp’s 6.2 million – 67.9 per cent to 32.1 per cent. The referendum counts were completed at the end of Friday, after local council results were announced.
