Work to demolish a derelict toilet block in Gravesend town centre will start next month, it has been announced.

Gravesham Borough Council has revealed the old public conveniences in Parrock Street will be torn down on Monday, September 7.

The above ground structure will be removed with the underground cavity filled in and paved. The works will take three weeks to complete.

During construction, the footpath will shut at the Milton Road and Parrock Street junction but it's believed there will be minimal disruption to traffic.

The toilets, which were built in the early 20th century, were closed in the 90s because of poor access and rising maintenance costs.

They were sold in 2008 but were later bought back by the council after no successful planning application came forward.

The disused block has been described by council bosses as an "eyesore" with its removal key to improving the town centre's appearance.

The area will also be used as a drop-off facility for weddings and funerals.
