The air ambulance landed on grounds behind the Bat and Ball pub in Wrotham Road shortly after and took the person to Kings College Hospital for further treatment.

A worker at Popeyes takeaway in Parrock Street said: “The truck is blocking the road and traffic is being diverted via Parrock Street. There is one police car still there.”

An office worker close to the scene said: “They’ve cordoned the road off with police tape, and the road is still currently shut.

“There was a lot of police and ambulances. The helicopter landed nearby. I was working but I heard the sirens and the sound of the helicopter.

A police spokesman confirmed the pedestrian’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
