When she moved into a care home, the last thing on 89-year-old Beryl Harman’s mind was love.

But she found just that when fellow resident Peter Ambler relocated to Edward Moore House in Gravesend a few months after her.

Former sequence dancer Beryl had moved into the Trinity Road home back in May and found herself smitten with Royal Navy veteran Peter upon his arrival.

The 90-year-old had moved into the home in August and the pair felt an instant connection and struck up a friendship.

Fast forward a few months and the pair are very much a happy couple.

“It’s a big change moving into a care home, it was really daunting, so it has been lovely to find Peter,” said Beryl.

"We just gelled instantly, and I think if you’re given a second chance to be happy you should take it.”

Peter added: “And since being with this lady, I’ve been happy.

"We spend all of our time together and do enjoy a kiss and a cuddle!”

Both of them were previously married but are now sadly widowed.

The pair spend their days holding hands in the lounge and enjoy a joke together.

And marriage is even on the cards for the happy couple.

“Well, at our age you’ve got to move quickly,” added Beryl, to which Peter jokingly replied, “Get married? If I have to!”

Staff at Edward Moore House have been delighted by the pair's romance.

General manager Christine Hutchinson, said: “It’s just so lovely to see Beryl and Peter together. You can clearly see they’ve made a real connection and it just shows, it’s never too late for love.”
